SOUL
Established in 1998 by Satellite Arts (NYC) Soul is a global collaboration founded on the belief that modest means inspire the greatest rewards. With pencils and a sheet of paper this project invites individuals from all over the world to draw what they imagine or believe their souls looks like. The drawings will serve as a testament to cultural vitality and creativity, as a unifying force regardless of nationality, ethnicity or religious affiliation. All drawings are being collected by Reg Vardy Gallery at the University of Sunderland, England. Five hundred drawings will be selected by the Gallery for inclusion in a publication to be distributed worldwide.
To insure a global response to Soul the Vardy is working with collaborative partners around the world to collect the drawings. Exhibitions of the drawings will take place in New York, Africa, Bangladesh, Japan and England.
Inner Light
As part of the Soul project Reg Vardy Gallery is collecting drawings created by participants in Sunderland, UK and their families abroad. This series of soul drawings will demonstrate Sunderland’s cultural richness resulting in a shared means of communication. The drawings will be illuminated as a sequence of projections in the centre of the city during the SHINE Winter Festival in December 2006.
